An awl is a fantastic tool. Not just to make holes with. Here is a list of things I have or intend to use my awl for
* use it as a large thumbtack.
* pick up sweets / food.
* put in the middle and have a string around to draw a circle
* untangle troublesome knots
* make small holes in jars
* scratch down measurements on wood/metal
* as a letter opener
* toothpick
The metal piece of this awl I have smooth silver steel, it has a sleeve of recycled pipe to hold and the wood is beautiful cherry.
